Weaver Leather Livestock has partnered with the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association BEST program to present
Novice Sponsorships to get new youth involved in the Novice Division. Up to 50 participants will be
awarded the sponsorship that covers the OCA membership fee ($60) and BEST nomination fee ($30
per head). Any 8 – 21 year old cattle enthusiast participating in their first or second year of the BEST
program may submit and essay for the Novice Sponsorship.
“At Weaver Leather Livestock, we are all about giving kids the tools they need to be successful in the
show ring. They are the leaders of tomorrow, so we want to be able to provide them an opportunity to
get more involved in the livestock industry and encourage them to continue showing,” commented Lisa
Shearer, Weaver Leather Livestock Division Manager.
BEST stands for Beef Exhibitor Show Total and is a youth development program for participants 8 – 21
years old. It is designed to recognize Ohio's junior beef exhibitors throughout Ohio as they accumulate
points at a series of sanctioned steer and heifer shows. The Novice Division was implemented to provide
a less competitive environment for newcomers to the program and has a separate set of points tracked
along with their regular points for the season-end awards banquet. Awards for the Top 10 Novice
Showmen, Heifer and Market Animal are given out. As part of the Novice Sponsorship, all participants
will be entered to win a Stierwalt Professional Chute from Weaver Leather to be given away at the
awards banquet.
